The NGO Mladiinfo Montenegro (m!M) in cooperation with Franca store, on the occasion of the Day of the Fight against Poverty on October 17, 2020, organized a fundraising campaign for Mihajlovic family from Berane, Saric family from Niksic and Spasic family from Podgorica.
Donations were handed to families on October 18.
In Franca store in Podgorica, Berane and Niksic, from 8 am to 9 pm, carts were set up in which food products and personal hygiene products were collected. Citizens wholeheartedly donated products that they considered useful and important, regardless of the monetary value of the products. A large amount of food was collected, mostly oil, flour, sugar, but also pasta, pate, salami, hot dogs, milk, yogurt, fruits and vegetables, meat, cheese. What the children were most happy about were the bags of sweets and snacks. In addition to groceries, our fellow citizens also donated shampoos, toothpaste, soaps, cleaning products, laundry detergent, toilet paper, protective masks, but also books.
“We couldn’t wait to take everything to the families. When we arrived, the children went out to see what had arrived. They probably didn’t expect that many things. Honestly, neither did we. They ran to bring everything into the house immediately, and the sweets made them most happy. Relief could be seen on the mother’s face. In the next period, she won’t have to worry about how to feed the children”, the volunteers who were part of this collection action shared their experience.
Child poverty in Montenegro is a consequence of parental unemployment and can only be solved by creating favorable conditions for employment and entrepreneurship. The youngest children are most affected because poverty affects the development of their body and mind. The poor are not like that because of their personal choice, but because of the circumstances that forced them to be like that. A life worthy of a man, working conditions, opportunities for various types of professional training and the availability of social protection are issues that more than ever affect the daily lives of people living in poverty around the world.
“Thanks to a significant number of citizens who with their good and human gesture contributed with their donation and participated in the action of the organization, but also to our volunteers who accompanied the action itself. We will always try to work on humanity and to some extent bring a smile to someone’s face. We also thank the Franca store chain because they were the only ones to respond to our invitation and allow us to do a collection action in their markets”, they said from Mladiinfo Montenegro.
